Did you Know?

Did you know that a land acknowledgment is a good first step in recognizing and honoring our Indigenous friends and neighbors? It’s important to understand the history of our home, and the tribes who took care of the land before they were forced to leave. Land acknowledgments aren’t the only way to celebrate Indigenous peoples and their culture, so we encourage you to support and learn more about the Tribes who live near you!

Learn more about the importance of Land Acknowledgments with Aunty Lena and Possum, from Look, Listen, and Learn TV.

Did you know that call and response is a style of singing that has roots in African music? It was introduced to the Americas by enslaved peoples who brought their music and traditions with them. Now you can find call and response in all types of music from pop, gospel, folk or even jazz. In this style, a singer will sing a phrase, and the audience will respond with a new phrase, or answer a question, creating a song together!

Join Sumayya for a journey through the African Diaspora with dance, movement, drum rhythms and song!
