We know that our farming practices and principles and our ways of life need to not only be sustainable, they need to be regenerative. Here are a few resources that explain how we are moving toward what we feel needs to be our future.

Plant Based Food Share

Saturday May 27th, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

PBFS serves low-income, underserved urban communities who live in food deserts and includes: African American, Latinx, & BlPOC children, families, elders, and domestic violence victims. We provide food boxes with organic produce, pantry essentials, and fresh baked goods, and culturally relevant, prepared meals. We do this work as a way to heal our communities, to inspire community, and to encourage healthy lifestyles for those that are underserved and have historically been unable to grow their own food or access healthy foods.

Danny Woo Community Gardens

Saturday May 27th, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Tucked behind a row of tall trees up against Seattle’s busy Interstate 5, it is easy to miss. This community garden is anything but ordinary. The Danny Woo Community Garden was founded in 1975 and is located in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District at 620 South Main Street. The Garden is approximately 1.5 acres and contains nearly 100 plots that are cultivated and cared for by elderly Asian immigrant residents of the neighborhood. The garden is also home to a children’s garden, chicken coop, outdoor kitchen, and fruit tree orchard. As the largest green space in the Chinatown/International District and Little Saigon area, the Danny Woo Community Garden is an essential place for the surrounding community to engage with nature, access safe and healthy food, and build cohesion with neighbors.

City Fruit

Saturday May 27th, 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

An independent nonprofit, City Fruit started in 2008 when founder Gail Savina organized volunteers who were interested in trying to redirect Seattle’s excess fruit from waste. Many people then did not know how to go about sharing excess fruit, and community members were not aware that they could harvest from public orchards. City Fruit began to build community by harvesting and sharing fruit with all, and sharing knowledge of the stewardship and promise of fruit trees as a sustainable food resource in our community. Today, we help tree owners and community orchardists grow healthy fruit, provide assistance in harvesting and preserving fruit, promote the equitable sharing of extra fruit with neighbors, and work to protect public fruit trees. We take a holistic approach to our work and have programs from education and outreach to tree care and harvest, and we advocate for equitable food policy and sustainable orchard care and food practices.
