Phil And Vivian Williams (1981)

Back to Archive

Phil and Vivian Williams are co-founders of Northwest Folklife, founded in 1971, and have a number of recordings in this archive. This one was taken at the festival in 1981 at the Opera House stage in Seattle Center.

Vivian Williams grew up in Tacoma and learned to play piano and classical violin. Through the years, Vivian entered a number of fiddle contests, won a handful of them, and was inducted into the fiddler's Hall of Fame. She and her husband Phil Williams founded the band Tall Timber which garnered widespread popularity between the late 1960s to the 1980s.  They both have also released many records on their own label Voyager Recordings.
