Metro shuttles are gone!

The Federal Transportation Agency issued a policy in 2008 that prohibited government agencies such as King County/Metro from operating event shuttles. Actually, the bidding on these services needed to be opened to private companies. If a private company bid, then the government agency was out. No matter that these companies for the most part do not have the equipment to operate shuttles of the size that we operate here in Seattle: Mariner games, Seahawk games, Folklife, Bumpershoot, Husky football…just to name a few. I don’t know who if anyone is pursuing this issue but pursued it must be. I’m a metro driver of 20 years and have seen the impact this has had on our community. Anyone out there know if anything is being done to reverse this trend? This policy affects transportation agencies nationwide not just here in Seattle.
