Environmental sustainability is important to Northwest Folklife. We are constantly searching for new ways to make the Festival more “green." Currently we recycle paper, compost food waste and convert cooking oil into clean-burning biodiesel.
The 2009 Festival will bring the start of the Living Green Courtyard (located in Alki Court). We invite you to explore this new area and talk to the participating sponsors, vendors and nonprofits about how they are each helping to conserve precious resources. While there, enjoy the music of the all-local Alki Court stage where none of the musicians have travelled farther than 15 miles to perform!
The Living Green Courtyard is generously sponsored by:
- Bath Fitter
- Garden Burger
- Natures Gate
- Renewal by Andersen
- Dagoba Organic Chocolate
- Revosol Solar Energy
Going green is not something we can do alone. We encourage all who attend to ride the bus, carpool, bike or walk to the Festival. For a personalized bus schedule, try the Metro Trip Planner. While at the Festival, we ask that you look for recycling and food waste bins instead of throwing everything into the trash.
Remember, it’s your Festival; so help us go green and sustain the Festival for years to come!
