Tribute to Silent Voices
Sunday, May 24, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Café Impromptu
Several notable members of our community have devoted a significant portion of their lives to capturing and passing along traditions. This tribute is intended to honor those who pass before us and to pay tribute to their work.
Stewart Hendrickson has organized the first portion of the set, a Tribute to Stan James, to be emceed by Paul Dorpat. Participants will include Al Hirsch, Nancy Quense, Mariide, Percy Hilo, Jon Bartlett and Alice Stuart. Stan James was among the first founders of the Seattle Folklore Society, an active member of the Seattle Song Circle, a boatwright who worked to preserve the Wawona and an exponent of Australian and American folk music.
Seattle Song Circle will close the set with songs that honor others that have passed before us, like Phil and Hilda Thomas of Vancouver B.C., Merritt Herring of Portland, John Perry of Kennewick, and John Dwyer of Marysville. We heartily invite audience participation and Bruce Baker will facilitate the circle. The singers are as organic as the music you will hear.
