Refer a friend and get a $5 coupon!
We’re launching a campaign to get 500 new Friends
of Folklife in time for the 2008 Festival. When
you refer a friend to sign up at the $50 level
or higher, as our thanks you’ll receive a $5
coupon to use towards Folklife merchandise during
the 2008 Festival!*
Folklife faces a serious challenge this year; one that
you can help solve! Due to the current
nationwide financial climate, sponsorships and corporate
donations are down, but the hard costs of our Festival,
like everything else, are increasing. In order to
maintain our high standards in presenting this amazing
community arts event, we need your help more than ever!
And we need your help now!
Now you can encourage your friends to help keep community
arts happening! Simply point your friends
to our website donor form at www.nwfolklife.org.
When they fill out the online donation form, they can
enter your name in the “referred by” field.
Your friends get the benefits of being a Friend of Folklife,
and you get a $5 coupon to spend at the Festival. And
you both get the satisfaction of knowing that YOU
help make community arts happen with your support!
Here’s a sample email to send to your friends:
Dear Friend,
I’m emailing you today to invite you to support
one of Seattle’s most cherished folk arts organizations
– Northwest Folklife (www.nwfolklife.org).
For 37 years, Northwest Folklife has engaged Pacific
Northwest communities to come together and participate
in music, dance and stories as a way of celebrating,
sharing and sustaining folk, ethnic and traditional
arts. The annual Memorial Day weekend Festival
is the largest free event of its kind in North America!
Where else can you hear Balkan brass bands, Senegalese
hip-hop and African American gospel choirs and
participate in Bhangra, Tango and square dance –
all in one place! ?
Like other non profit arts organizations, Folklife faces
a serious challenge this year; one that we can
help solve! Due to the current nationwide financial
climate, sponsorships, corporate donations and even
grants are lower than expected, but the hard costs
of the Festival, like everything else, are increasing
.
I’m a Friend of Folklife because I believe in
the programming Northwest Folklife provides, both at
the Festival and year-round. If you appreciate
the diversity and quality of folk arts and the community
inclusion that Folklife presents, show
your support by donating now (http://www.nwfolklife.org/P_NWF/friends.html).
Your support can make a significant difference.
Becoming a Friend of Folklife means:
...you’ll have the satisfaction of supporting
the nation’s largest free community arts festivals!
...your donation is tax-deductible (unlike the cash
donations at the Festival entrances).
...it’s less expensive than donating at the Festival
entrances everyday.
...you can avoid digging in your pockets, trying to
find spare dollars.
...instead of being asked for donations, you’ll
be greeted with a “thank you!” at the entrances
when you wear your Friends of Folklife button.
You can contact Erin Doherty, the Development Assistant,
by email or by calling (206)233-3953 with any questions.
With warmest regards,
(YOUR NAME GOES HERE)
*The Details: You must be a current Friend
of Folklife (you can join
now and still refer friends!) to receive the coupon,
and your friend must enter your first and last name in
the required field (donations may also be made via phone,
referencing your name). If the donation is received
by April 30th, coupons will be mailed out with your Friends
of Folklife benefits in early May; for donations received
after April 30th, you will need to pick up your coupons
at Festival Services in the Center House. There
is no limit to the number of coupons you may receive.
Coupons are valid only for use on official Folklife merchandise
(not valid on performer recordings) at the sportswear
booths and are valid for use only at the 2008 Festival.

| Northwest
Folklife is one of the few nonprofit public folklore
organizations in the country that is not affiliated
with a university or government agency and is funded
entirely through donations, grants (some of which are
national, state or local government agency grants) and
Festival sponsorships.
Becoming
a Friend of Folklife means that you join hundreds of
others who understand and value the mission of Northwest
Folklife. Northwest Folklife brings you the Northwest
Folklife Festival, designated a Local
Legacy by the Library of Congress; educational programs
serving public school children and underserved populations,
research and consulting services that help communities
promote their cultures; books and recordings that preserve
